CITY OF MADEIRA BEACH RECOVERS FROM HURRICANE IRMA City Staff is acting quickly to ensure recovery operations are taking place

In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma the City of Madeira Beach is working hard to clear streets and debris from roadsides. Cleanup is a work in progress with the expectation of debris pick up to continue well into next week.

“We are working hard with our partnership through FEMA to ensure debris is collected effectively and recorded accurately. We ask residents to be patient as we work diligently to clean up the community.”– Dave Marsicano, Public Works Director

As of this morning there are still a few places without power including city hall offices and John’s Pass Village. Traffic outages are being monitored by community policing officers at the intersections of 153rd Avenue and Gulf Boulevard as well as Madeira Way and Gulf Boulevard. Please use caution in these areas.

“Our commitment to the community is that we will have the entire county restored by midnight Friday, with the exception of those whose homes may be damaged that they can’t safely receive power.” – Jeff Baker, Duke Energy Government and Community Relations Manager

At this time City offices are hopeful to open in alignment with Pinellas County Schools on Monday, September 18. City meetings are expected to continue through the month as follows;

September 19th, Tuesday 6PM          Second Budget Hearing
September 25th, Monday 2PM          Special Magistrate – Variance / Special Exception Hearings
September 26th, Tuesday 2PM          Board of Commissioners Workshop
September 26th, Tuesday 6PM          Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting

“Madeira Beach was extremely fortunate that we weren’t hit as hard as expected and the storm surge remained minimal. However, my heart goes out for those of you who had damage.” Maggi Black, Mayor

Residents still in need of urgent support can call the public works emergency mobile number at (727) 543-8154.
