In a publicity stunt aimed at thirsty beachgoers, Corona beer has partnered with the alcohol delivery service Klink for beach-side beer delivery for one day only on Madeira Beach this weekend.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, you’ll be able to order a six-pack of tall boys for $6.99 while sitting on a beach blanket in Archibald Beach Park in Madeira Beach. The app is free and there is no delivery charge, said a spokeswoman.
This is the first time the company has tried such an event, said Julie Grassey of the social media PR agency coordinating the event. And the fact that most Florida beaches forbid alcohol made such an effort “tricky,” she said.
Customers will need to enable location services and download the Klink app at klinkdelivery.com to order the beer through the virtual Klink storefront. The geo-specific locator will find the customer and orders will be delivered via boat to a designated beach-front drop zone, complete with fresh limes and Corona swag, she said.
There aren’t plans yet to more broadly bring this kind of delivery option to Madeira, she said. But the stunt is designed to draw attention to Corona’s current marketing line “find your beach.”
Ordering booze with your smartphone has caught the attention of investors recently.
Boston-based Drizly, developer of a mobile app that connects liquor stores with home-delivery customers, earlier this month said it had raised $15 million from private investors, according to the Boston Globe, helping the startup reach nearly $33 million. It aims to allow customers to order alcohol for delivery within an hour and to have next-day, scheduled delivery options.
Drizly’s service is currently available in 24 cities, including Tampa.
Klink is a newer alcohol delivery app, currently available in Washington, D.C.; Orlando;, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Miami and has marketed itself as the savior of tailgating parties with beer delivery.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, a rain date for the Madeira Beach event is Aug. 28.
