MADEIRA BEACH, FL – Following the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis’ Executive Order issued earlier this week the City of Madeira Beach is postponing the following events at the Madeira Beach Recreation Center:
• Kite Day
• Gulf Beaches Rotary Waterfront Festival
• The Water Lantern Festival
• Mad Beach Burgerfest
• Spring Break Camp
In addition to postponing events, the Recreation Center will be closed March 16 – 31. All events scheduled during that time are canceled. In April, city staff will re-evaluate the current status of efforts to contain the Coronavirus and make appropriate adjustments. “Public safety is our priority,” said City Manager Bob Daniels. “The governor declared an
emergency earlier this week giving local communities valuable direction which we are following. This is the new reality, at least for the time being.”
Large scale events in the Tampa Bay region and beyond, including NHL, PGA, MLB, NBA, and other large-scale gatherings are being impacted by Covid-19 (Coronavirus). The City of Madeira Beach began taking proactive measures earlier this week to protect staff and the public by disinfecting surfaces inside city facilities, promoting frequent handwashing by staff and sending any employees home that complain of not feeling well or are exhibiting flu-like symptoms.
City officials will re-evaluate additional events in April and beyond as needed. Anyone suspecting they may have been exposed to Coronavirus is encouraged to self-quarantine at home and contact their physician or the Pinellas County Health Department (866-779-6121) for advice. Do not go to your doctor unannounced or the emergency room without direction from your doctor.
